I date my co-worker, so I have some inside knowledge.

I told my boss today that I will not be working at the school for another year, stating that I would like to teach older students (I teach kindy).

This is what I heard:
my boss phoned another waegook she knows - in front of another of my co-workers - and asked if she needs to reimburse me for my ticket back home at the end of my contract.
The conversation ended with her saying that she would read my contract tomorrow.

I have a feeling a good old argument is on the way. She has this habit of thinking she is smarter than everyone and that no-one realises when she is trying to be sly.
I really want to see if she suggests I don't get my airfare.

I'm thinking a letter to all of the schools' parents will be in order, detailing how little she knows about running a school and how much she is ripping them off.

Don't do anything yet - wait and see.

In the meantime, read your contract VERY CAREFULLY. Does it say anything about return airfare?

There are several scenarios:

1. She reads the contract, you read the contract. it says there she has to pay you. She agrees and pays. Problem solved.

2. She reads the contract, you read the contract. It says there, black and white, she has to pay return airfare. She refuses. You negotiate. She backs off and agrees to pay. Problem solved.

3. She reads the contract, you read the contract. It says she has to pay. She refuses, you negotiate. Negotiation fails. Things get nasty. You call the Labour Board. Problem NOT SOLVED.

In the event that number 3 happens... make sure you have the labour
board number handy so you can call it, there and then, in front of her!

Else you could get other people to intervene on your behalf to knock some sense into her.

But.. for now? Sleep on it until she does something.

There are a number of ways of ensuring you get your airfare. This is not one of them.

Calling students is a great way to get caught up in a slander suit. Slander here means damage to a person (even if it is the truth).
