I was reading a socialist website that tends to give any money figures well and has well-written editorial comments. This time it was about the auto workers. They all basically got laid off and the union supported it.
The editorial shows that the new temp workers are getting ripped off, which they probably are, but the feature really has a go at the benefits that the forced retirees got. It shows that anyone with under ten years service got a cash payout of 70.ooo USDs, and those with over ten years service, 140.ooo dollars.
Well, after having worked in K for ten years if a school closed down and gave me one hundred and forty thousand dollars, I'd be tickled pink.
But alas, people aren't happy at the payout offers.
Then, I saw the photos of some of the outgoing workers. Man, they are soooo big. Like diet and food was never a problem. Vehicles, no prob. - No workers at Flint had obviously walked anywhere.
Compare that to the average hakwon worker here, myself included, look like rakes. So skinny and undernourished.
It's disappointing about the new rates for new workers and their nearly nil benefits, but I won't be saying, 'Boo hoo,' on behalf of those laid off.
When people protest in many countries they fight tooth and nail. Protesters in the Mid-West sit down. (A 'sit-in.')
Makes me kind of cynical. |
