Well, I had the "interview" with the Korean Embassy in Canberra for the E-2 this morning- for both my wife and I!
I called them to check on the progress of our visa, and when we would be getting our passports back. While I was on the phone I was asked:
1. When and where was your first E-2 issued?
2. Is the address and telephone number in Korea on the application form that of the school or the apartment you will be living in?
3. Have you booked tickets yet, and if so what date will you be arriving in Korea?
At the end of the questions I was told:
"Since you have been issued an E2 in the past, from Australia, there is no need for another in person interview. Have a nice time in Korea."
I take this to mean that new applicants may need an in person interview, as might people who had visa issued in another country.
I was on the phone for about 4 minutes, including the time being transfered. They can't have many applications to deal with. When I said I was calling to check on the progress of our applications he said "Ahh, Mr jjk....." Pretty slow Embassy! All of the people I have spoken to there were very polite with excellent English however.
Seems that the whole process was very cursory and easy. |

I was told the process was relatively easy and borders on being worthless. Other than dressing sharp and having my documents ready, is there anything else I need to be prepared for? |

Well, since I was on the phone with the Embassy I don't think it mattered what I was wearing! |

I will be at a private elementary school in Daejeon, rather than a hagwon. I assume this made the process a little easier? |

This confirms what's already been posted: most people who aren't new to the E-2 process won't require a face-to-face interview at a Korean consulate. Hallelujah! |

I was told by a gentleman, with quite good English, that if one already had an E-2 visa and it was not cancelled..revoked...there would be no problem in getting a second E-2 visa and that a consular interview would not be necessary. |
