| Hey Guys and Gals! I taught in Korea for 8 months, three years back, I had to break the contract due to My mothers health problems, but would like to come back to the country and teach again. I've read through some of the posts and would like some feedback on any problems I might have getting my e-2 visa again. I realize there are tighter regulations now, I'm not worried about the background check or the interview. Any tips or suggestions on my possible re-entry to the land of the morning calm? |

| If you are thinking about coming back, just try and think of everything as being new. Follow the new regulations and do what is required and you will have little difficulty, unless you have a criminal history, a poor medical history, or cannot verify that your educational qualifications are real. The system is much different today than it was three years ago, but it can be worked in with little or no problems if you want to do what is required of you. |

| Thanks for the advice, and yes i have a job. but you know its nice to have options. My real concern was that seeing that I left without a notice on a weekend due to my mothers stroke. I am concerned that my hogwan might have reported me to immigration, because i used the return flight option on my air ticket, I was there almost 9 months if that means anything. Of course my hagwon did plenty of illegal stuff as well, like pimping me out to other hagwons to teach illegally(of course I got paid a kickback). Any advice on wheather I can check with immigration so I dont get all set to come and then find out I'm denied entry. Any knowledge or advice appreciated. |

What did your contract say about repayment of the flight ticket? In most cases the teacher is exonerated from that obligation at the six month mark.
Your e-2 sponsorship expired and you will have no trouble getting a new one. Your old employer might be able to sue you in a Korean court for any money you owe him, but that is unlikely. He has probably forgotten about you by now. He would have to go through the effort of tracking you down, etc. after you arrive. Don't sweat it.
Do brush up on the new visa regs and get to work on your criminal check sooner than later.
Good luck. |
