Hello,
I just wanted to know what your thoughts on obtaining a winter camp job in January and then finding positions for a year contract afterwards with a recruiter? I was thinking that maybe I should secure both before leaving the US due to the new E2 regulations. Or should I do the winter camp and have the recruiter search while I am in country? I can take my time before leaving, a recruiter wants me to sign for a winter camp position from Jan 5th to Feb 5th and have a contract with a public school starting March, I just wanted to know others opinion. I do not have anyone that I am allowing to pressure me, I just want to make sound decisions based on those who are more informed than myself. Thank you for your time and appreciation.

I advise hooking them both up before you leave your home country. You won't be able to see the hogwan or apartment, but you may find yourself using a recruiter here anyway. If you are going the public school route, definitely apply and secure it before you go. Many places won't think that are in advance, though, so if you have to go out of country for the visa, make sure the employer pays for the visa run, not you. |

So if I accept their offer to go before I secure the school year long contract, I should have them add in the contract that they will pay for the visa run? |

Who is they?
Let's assume it's the full year contract employer. The full year employer should be paying for the visa run OR your plane ticket to Korea. If you come over on a short term visa for the winter camp, they should be paying for your flight over here. If not, you are going to be making less money when you subtract the amount of your plane ticket.
If you are in the country after your winter camp and you want to start a new contract, the employer of the new contract should pay for your visa run. Under the new E-2 guidelines, you MIGHT have to go to your home country and then return on the new E-2, year long visa. Before immigration stuck their head up their ass, you could just go to Japan or China for the visa and your employer would be out $500 or less. Now, if you have to go back to your home country, the employer will have to pay $1000-2000. If they won't do that, don't sign with them.
Now, back to your original question. If you can, legally, hook up the E-2 visa with your year-long employer, go to an English camp and remain in-country for your new year-long contract, go for it. With the new E-2 regulations/bullshit, I simply don't know if this is possible. |

Thank you! It's all coming from a recruiter and things that were said on her end did not add up. She even said it would be okay to do a visa run to Japan. I mentioned that from what I read, E2 visa runs to Japan are not allowed. She said basically that was news to her and that many applicants come in on the 3-month working visa and go over for the E2 and it would be unnecessary to come back to the U.S. What you posted makes a lot more sense. I appreciate the advice and help. |
