Ahhh, I have some delicious red apples here. How lovely, red and sweet they are. What shall I do with them? Shall I cut them into halves and serve them up? Shall I stew them and make an apple crumble of sorts.

No hang on. I know what I shall do.

I'll mix them up with octopus and vinegered red pepper paste and serve it as a culinary treat.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Koreans simply do not know how to cook. Boiling random meat and veg with gochujang and serving with rice and kimchi is not cooking. I know Korea is still officially at war, but come on, this is taking the piss...

I get the slightly better recipe involving smothering apples with mayonnaise quite often. Maybe I should say its a bowl of mayonnaise with a few chuncks of apples in it. Either way, its pretty gross.

But I'll take that any day over Apples 'n Squid!!!!

Had something very similar today. Thinly sliced apples, in a sweet cream of some sort, mixed with peppers and Octopus.

Being Vege, I'm always amazed when they have bibimbap for lunch at school. And I get it, put a small spoon of the gochugaru in and then sit down stir it around until it's nicely mixed in. And then start to eat. Then a dinner lady comes over with a shovel and chucks another massive dollop of gochugaru on top. Jesus Keyrhist! I want to taste this! I don't want to die of stomach cancer next week! I don't want to be constipated! Every day I get rice and that's it so the one day I might be able to eat something and it's ruined.

God only know's what will happen if the Koreans ever discover salt!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, they already have. Salt levels in Korean food are among the highest in the world, especially in the soups.

Waldorf salad rings a bell. You'll actually see this in beer hofs here.

Ingredients: apples, mayo, a touch of lemon juice, raisins, pecans or walnuts, chopped celery, a bit of sugar etc.

1/3 cup of mayo is good enough for 3-4 apples. Make it as wet or chunky as you like.

The adv. of this recipe is that you don't have to peel the apples.

My grandmother used to make the best.

Cooks Idea

We have chefs here in Japan. One is from Italy. We have a choice of western or Japanese food on the buffet. Lunch usually takes an hour to eat and the chairs are surrounded by plants and classical music. Today there was an apple pie, a la mode.

You peel them, slice them, add brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Put into a cake pan and then top with an oatmeal mixture of cinnamon, brown sugar and butter.

And then bake in your oven. Oven baked apple crisp is king.

Our school's caterer employs a nutritionist to make sure our little darlings get a balanced diet.

Yesterday we had a lunch that included boiled rice, noodles, tteokbokki and rice cakes for desert.

Nice.

Being veggie myself, I know better than to trust the school cafeteria with making bibimbap. Evidently they don't think ham is meat nor that shellfish is fish. Yeah, just the way I want to spend my day--in the hospital after reaction to stuff I'm allergic to!

I eat elsewhere and don't have to pay the surcharge on so-called food at the school.

Eeeep! That's too bad. I don't get allergic reactions to food so am lucky in that sense. My co-teacher has drilled it into them about the vege thing and they're really good about it. One of my elementary schools makes me something special every week, which I'm always impressed with. And luckily I don't have to pay for my food. I work in a village of about 400 people so they other options are non-existent.

Our apples were used today in the form of miniature triangular apple pie pastry things. Not too shabby!
