I was talking to some of my students today about SKTelecom. My Malaysian students told me that some things of changed and that they can register for websites and don't have as much of a rigmarole as compared to back in the day when I got my phone.

Have the telephone companies improved?

Do they still demand a deposit from foreigners if you're buying a cellphone? If so I'll continue to avoid them and stick with LG.

they were under a gov't ban on new signups at that time. I think it lasted for 3 months.

Last I heard, KT was beginning talks with Apple to bring the iPhone to Korea sometime next year....might be worth it to sign up with them for that reason...

Sounds similar to my case this past summer. Couldn't get any help from the SKT places around Sinchon and ended up landing a KTF phone. Works just fine even though people were saying something about not being able to get reception on the subway with KTF. Come to think of it, I need to go recharge my minutes....
