Howdy!

Looking for nice hotel, 40-50$, in either Insadong or Itaewon.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Why Insadong or Itaewon? I don't think you will find a nice hotel for $40 or $50 in Seoul. Might I suggest finding a love motel near Monchontoseong station (pink subway line). Despite their name, love motels can be quite nice. A good one will run about $70 per night.

There are some near Insadong behind the Pagoda building which are nice. I know wheich one it is but can't remember the name. Trial and error in that street is a good idea

Often I will go in to a place and ask to look at a room before renting it. While they don't particularly like to do it, most will.

Sorry I do rave about this hotel too much - about $80 for a double and it's in Myeongdong (you can walk to Insadong easily) - but it's just a good hotel. So there.

Kaya Hotel, Namyeong station is your best bet close enough to itaewon and a short subway to insadong

I would choose Tomgi Hotel (located right next to a subway exit in Jongro) any night! The VIP room there is superb and also affordable (120,000 won a night or so).

I liked the Seoul Backpackers for taking trips to Seoul, but it's not a hotel. It's only a 17,000 won a night hostel and gives you what you need; a bed, a locker, luggage storage, laundry before 7PM, and a shower. It's near Insadong between Anguk and Jongno 3 ga subway stations.

That place looks great. The VAT prices seem nutty, though. I called them, and they quoted lower prices all-around.

It looks more like a yagwon inside, though. Stupid question, but can you turn off the lights? Last time I stayed in a Bobos place like that, there were no windows (Elleinn seems to have none) and you couldn't make the room dark without yanking the key out of the key thingie.

Would that be an OK place for relatives to stay, or is it going to be filled with couples screaming in ecstasy all night?

I checked on the ellein hotel.

It's more of a motel.

We went there looking for a place for family to stay. It's off the main road, near Samgakji station (along the wall of the base). The first thing they asked my lady was if she wanted the room by the hour, which really angered her.

Fine for a teacher or for fun. Not for family.
