Well, I just talked with the people at the RCMP and was informed that do to backlog they are currently churning out criminal record checks way past their original 12 week wait.
Maybe I can get my fingerprints to the RCMP by Monday next week (by act of God, I guess), and we'll use the figure of 14 weeks. That moves us to Feb. 18th. Add notarizing, a Consulate interview and all the rest and I'm lucky to be back here by mid-March.
I'm a planner. My contract is up soon and I want another in March next year. If these new regulations really go into place, who's going to be teaching while we're all waiting for our checks to come through? |

Why bother with RCMP? Goto a regional or city police force.
They all use the same computer system. |

Let me say that I went to the local police 2 weeks ago to get a police check. Yesterday I got it back and on the form it indicated that they had done both local and RCMP checks on me. The counter person at the station assured me that it was a national police check. So it can be done a lot faster than 12-14 weeks in your home country. I'd call your local station and ask them what can be done if you're out of country. I asked and they gave me some forms to fill out if I were to need a check done while overseas. |

Get a criminal record check from your local K police station (free, and takes 10 min.), before you leave K-land. Use it to get your visa when you decide to come back.
Problem solved. |

Are you sure getting a check here is good enough? I'm in Korea and will visit Canada for a few weeks in February. I figured that wasn't enough time to get a local check done. Do you really think immi will accept a Korean check? It would make my life simple. Do you just walk into a Korean police station and ask for one? |

The RCMP and Korean police forces don't communicate under normal circumstances. When I needed a Canuck security clearance last year, I had to contact the Korean police for a background check on my own.
I think what Snowmeow meant was that you can contact your provincial police force back home and it will be the same as the RCMP check. The provincial checks normally take about a week. |
