I'm still in Canada, and although I've got years of ESL experience (a lot of it EAP), I've never applied for jobs from abroad before. I've been sending out resumes for university positions in Korea, and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it. Will they even consider you if you're not in the country? I'm starting to doubt it. Can anyone give me some feedback? Advice?

Thanks.

By the way, sorry for starting up a new topic if info is already out there - tried searching first but didn't find much. If you can lead me to other threads, much appreciated.

Generally, the answer is "No."

However, once in a while a school will consider doing telephone interviews and some, particularly for the M.A. TESOL programs in universities, will fly you in for the interview and pay some of your expenses. These interviews can be pretty intensive, however.

I think it also depends on if they feel they've gotten enough qualified applicants - that's going to also depend on the school and the program.

In sum, most schools want you to come in and see them.

I did get a Uni job from out of the country; the department did a webcam interview and I had to send in a sample lesson on VCD. But usually it would be much easier in country.
Who knows, maybe if they enforce that rule about teachers having to get the visa from their home country only, it will be easier to hire from overseas than from in country.
Anyway, there are a couple of good posts in the FAQ section here. Find one written by "the_beaver" under the title "5 questions about university" or something like that. I followed that step by step as well as I could from out of the country and got the job.
Good luck,
Drew
