|
|
I am planning on having a small vacation in Taipei for a few days and as I was looking for hotel rooms I came across two big fears. One is staying at a seedy place which I have been warned of. The second fear is the one I'm facing now... good hotels near Taipei are pretty costly.. about $100 or so a night.
Anyone know anyplace cheap and safe to stay at near Taipei?
Any help would be appreciated! |

TaiwanMex was an awesome hostel 10 mins from Taipei main station. its owned by a Taiwanese/Mexican couple. I THINK there are 2 of them in the same area, tho I never did see the second one. It's $10 a night and the shower is an outdoor port-a-shower but its decent enough as you are on the highest floor so no one will see you.
I don't have the contact info handy but it is in the Lonley Planet book as well at the Rough Guide. Google "taiwanmex" and see what comes up. |

| You can always look at www.cathaypacific.com, choose Korea as your country selection, and look at their Taiwan Airtel package. They are pretty good value. |

| There is a hostel in the key life mall which is good. It was roughly $15 a night , clean and safe. Right downtown near the mrt and zhongshan road. |

| It was in 2001, but I showed up there jobless, and just wandered for a while with my luggage near Taipei main station, and found a hotel for around $30 or so USD. You can probably do better with planning. |

Do you have to share rooms at this place? |

Are you talking about the HOLO Family Hostel / Taiwan Traveler's Hostel? On the 22nd Floor? Right near the Taipei train station?
My wife and I will be staying there in December. I hope it is good. We got a private ensuite for about US$40 a night. There are many oprions there.
There are very few hostels in Taipei and only two of them (I think) have ensuite rooms. If you aew willing to share a bathroom, there are more options.
Check out www.hostels.com or www.hostelbookers.com or www.lonelyplanet.com |

| Hostel "happy family" within walking distance of the MRT station where the airport bus drops you in Taipei. We paid $18 a night for a private room for the two of us. There's free internet and its shared bathrooms, but it was quiet when we went, so we had the whole top floor to ourselves. |
