My XBOX dvd drive just called it quits, it is NTSC from Canada. I want to know if I can get a replacement in Seoul and where as I will be there next weekend. I am also wondering if it is ok to put a Korean drive in a Canadian drive with the difference in electical input 120v Canadian to 220v Korea. Does this make a difference. It is modded so I dont think the Region makes a difference. I am also looking for a controller memory card, and if possible a bigger hard drive. My main concern is the DVD drive as the box is useless without it. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I searched like mad at Technomart about 2 months ago to find an original xbox, but it was over 5 years old. 80,000 won for 2 controllers and 3 games. I got it to mod for xbmc. Unfortunately the DVD drive is dying as well and it's locking up on the bios boot screen more and more. I looked on US sites to find replacement drives - only three drives out there work for it - the Thompson, Phillips, and Samsung. Looks like most of the sites I found on xboxscene.org are sold out and have been for a while. Plus my xbox isn't dual voltage, so you'll probably need to buy either a new powersupply or maybe a 150 watt(maybe less) converter from 120volt to 220 volt 50hz.

After all the time and expense you're probably better off just buying a new 360 here. One other option that may be worth checking out whether a modchip would allow the xbox to boot without a dvd drive attached. With some work it'd be possible to install quix, or maybe another DVD drive to get it working.

If you're thinking about buying a 360 here, keep in mind not all games get Asian releases.

Well I am n ot interested in a 360 as I am not a big gamer. I have been using the xbox more as a DVD player / media center. It is modded so does boot without the drive, but is still pretty useless. I have found some on ebay but they cant find a good one that will ship to korea. I was just hoping I could pick one up here and slap it in, but I guess not. Ah well, a new paper weight.
