Let's just say that someone was really really gung-ho for Korea and actually ponied up the money for a D-8 visa... 80 million won right? Could said person's company just be themself as an English tutor?

I have to admit that as much as Korea chafes my soul day in and day out, someday it's going to be an awesome place. I've already seen so much change here. I really don't want to deal with this potential E-2 hassle repeating in the future and am sick of hearing about how everybody with an F visa makes buckets of cash. I think the only alternative is to be my own visa sponsor. I could work whenever and wherever I wanted and still make the bucks that all those F holders make. While dealing with workplaces as I see fit, not a hagwon slave nor a public school muppet.

All sentimentality aside though, this is probably way less expensive in Japan? Sponsoring your own visa that is, and avoiding the knee-jerk immigration nazis? I dunno.

As far as I know it's only 50,000,000 won and it's not like you buy the visa with that -- you just have to prove that you've invested this somewhere... like a place to live, for instance.

Getting a D8 visa is a bit of a battle, but it is do-able. The difficulty comes from the fact that information and the procedure seems to differ depending on which government officials you're dealing with.

I've got a buddy who recently got his D8. I'll see if I can get him to post some info here, or perhaps you can contact him.

The problem with your proposition is that you will not get the proposed license from the MoE to teach.

I am not sure, but to start up an education "business" you have to comply to some very strict rules.
