I'm thinking of taking a job which has a 3:30-10:20 shift. I don't know how I feel about this. It seems like my options world be really limited from getting out so late, for example if I wanted to take a martial arts class, or be involved in some clubs or a band. Even if I wanted to go out to bars it'd be 11:00 at the earliest by the time I arrived to them.
Have any of you worked a shift that ended late, say past 10:00? How did you feel about it? Is getting out an hour or two earlier alot better or is it not much of a difference? |

Haven't taken that late a shift. Tho, I have left after 11pm on evaluation due days.
As for martial arts, many studios will have morning classes as well. My gumdo instructor has a morning class for adults. |

It's not too shabby.
Actually I work the morning and find I miss out on a lot!
Most Hagwon cats get out between 9-11pm so most expat stuff starts late.
I am usually in bed when many of my friends go out on Wednesdays. I took Hapkido
At 11pm my first year and you can get a ton done before 3pm if you dont sleep all day.
In truth its a personal choice. That time will still put you on the same schedule as a lot of others.
Just my opinion
Good luck |

I've done it and didn't mind at the time (since I didn't know better) but I doubt I'd do it again. Basically, after work, I'd hop on the subway, carrying all my crap with me, and make it to Hongdae knowing it would be a long, expensive cab ride home (lived in Cheonho at the time). Things would be revving up by the time I got there, around 11, but I did miss quite a few shows, although, not all. Also had to play catch-up on drinking since people had been going for a couple hours strong already. Now I finish at 7 on Fridays and feel even that's too late.
The best part about working 4-10 or whatever, is that you can get a kindie private in the morning. For less than 40 hours a month, that was an extra 1.5mil, ~30k/hr for next to nothing except showing up. |

I've done it. It really depends on the crowd you want to hang with. If you want to be with foreigners, it's a great schedule as most of them are finishing their hogwan gigs in the evening like you and you can party all night and sleep in late.
I found that it was hard to make Korean friends with this schedule (unless they also worked at hogwans), as most of them who had jobs had to get up in the morning. It can make dating someone who works days kind of a pain. You essentially only see them on the weekends. |
