I don't know a single one of the regular posters here, as far as I know, and I know a lot of people in this country.
I assume the percentage is quite low...so, the idea that 'Big Brother' judges the entire profession by what's written here seems pretty silly to me.
But maybe I'm wrong, and it's actually used by lots and lots of us?

Really small. Most people over here i know don't even read it let alone post on it. then again, most people i know here are younger and happy to get out and get into life as opposed to living a social life viacriously by way of the internet.

Well, Dave's only has around 100-200 regular posters. And there are, what was it? 12,000 E-2 holders in Korea? Plus the F-visa people.

Everyone SAYS they're not on here, but many are. At least reading/lurking.

And a bunch of us not teaching at present.

Just gettin' data from my last school. 10 teachers, and 3 of us post (that I know of)

so around 30%

But almost everybody reads it. What the hell else are you going to do when you get home at 11pm?

Whoops, I see you said "regular". My guess would be less than 10% as well then.

Isn't this just statistics?

Regular posters vs number of teachers in Korea...

Registered users vs number of teachers in Korea...

I would go with 3-5% of people actually post on here. Registered users is a bad way of measuring because plenty of those people may not even have made a post since coming to Korea, or even within the last 3 years. Out of just my group of 30-40 see on a regular basis friends here, I am the only regular user and about 4-5 others rarely, if ever, post.

It would be just statistics if the variables you mentioned were available, but they're mostly not. There's no stat for 'regular posters,' and the 'number of teachers in Korea' is tough to measure because of the F series visas. 'Registered users' includes people who may come but aren't here now, and also people who have long since left.

I was more curious to hear what people's opinions are, and how many of their friends post, and stuff like that.

Out of the 100 or so foreigners I know, I'd have to say about 10 post on here and another dozen read it on occasion.

Other than the people I've met via Daves (er, obviously), it is a truly tiny minority of the foreigners I've met that are regular posters. I did hang out with 3 new faces on Saturday night and it never came up in conversation (usually, I sneek 'did you read that thread about ___ on Dave's ESL, by any chance?') so not sure about them. I voted less than 10% therefore and expect it to be substantially less.

edit: one common complaint - leaving aside the usual complaint of it's so negative - is that it's useless for current events in Korea. The GD forum is too big and not specific and the CE is basically news and current affairs. People who want to know what's on at some place or something cannot find out via this site, they say. How anyone can survive public school jobs without it, God only knows.

Ah. I should have thought about all of those variables. That makes a scientific assessment pretty difficult.

Well then, I know of a lot of people who read this forum, but very few of my friends post here (or admit to posting here). Probably 5%?

Would there be any correlation between time spent here and usage, i.e you'd be more inclined to use it the longer you had been here? My school, 5 out of five read it, two hardly post, two occasionally and myself regularly. Combined time spent here between the five of us 22 years.

I'd say 10-20% roughly...and I wouldn't want to meet most of the people on here.

there are only ~25,000 registered users here (after 5 years). subtract people who have left, multiple socks etc and that's not many.

total number of E2 visas issued last year is around 15,000

clearly less than 10%
