So, I just saw the ad for a person to replace me when I leave. The start date is listed as December 24. I'm sure they will have people banging the doors down to start work on Christmas Eve. So glad I'm out of here...suckers!

P.S. It's really not a bad job if someone is looking to spend Christmas Eve in a new gig. Conditions for new teachers are worse than for me, but its still pretty good and they treat you well.

Not being a Christian, it doesn't sound like a problem.

But I'm not looking for work!

I'm not Christain either, but Christmas Eve is still a holiday to me (though it's not over here). I still wouldn't want to start work on that day.

Why do you celebrate Christmas? Do you have young children?

Woo-hoo, I'm gonna start celebrating Ramadan and Buddha's birthday!

Seems silly, I did see this job starting on the 24th in the job listings. I thought, why would anyone want to fly on December 22 or 23 and miss a Christmas at home when it should be reasonable to fly on the 26th and arrive on the 27th?

This is Winter vacation week for many hagwons anyhow.

I was raised Christian, so it holds sentimental value, but nothing else. Are you American, Oigirl? I feel like most americans are attached to Christmas even if they haev no religious attachment.

I arrived December 19th 2002 (Presidential Election Day) to begin my first job here on December 22nd.

No problem.

I had waited long enough to get the exact kind of position I was looking for and had promised myself I'd be overseas before the end of the year, so was really looking forward to spending New Year's in Asia!

I got the big holidays send off from home and Christmas day itself was just a day of rest here in which I hiked the hills and saw the island of Japan for the first time, in the distance from Geoje Island.

(Btw, it was 15 to 20 C that week I arrived, and I went about coatless. Then the day before New Year's Eve it suddenly became scarf weather.)

Christmas lost all sentimental value as soon as my grandparents died. The best Christmases ever have been anti-Christmases spent in Muslim countries.

But Merry/Happy Christmas to you all!

My employer placed his ad about a month ago and still no bites. hehehehe bliss. Hasta manyana punta gordo. 2.0/ 30 teaching hours/ week. mandatory 8 hours/ week OT. My contract was standard. But, he's shoved his head further up his arse since I came. Dumbarse.

good luck to him.

He tried to get me to renew at 2.7, but he's so freaky I chose a job with less hours at 2.4 who doesn't care if I do privates. I'm waiting for the last minute begging/negotiations.

In regerds to the linked job from the OP, I had to roll my eyes the 'guaranteed 30,000 raise if you resign for another year!" part. Wow, 30 bucks a month raise. 360 bucks a year. A dollar a day more!

I'd also like to point out that South Africa has been left off the allowable passport holders. I've seen this quite a bit during my job search. SA's are permitted under the E2 visa, right?
