I brought a Video Cam with me.. finally got it out to the Andong Mask Festival.. came back to Seoul and shot a bunch of great film in Topkol Park, Insadong, JongNo, and Shinchon. More the masses of people and the ajammas and a few street performers..

Anyone else have a video camera? What are some of the things you've shot and enjoyed looking back on?

Other ideas I was thinking of taking it out with me for the night bar-hopping and such.. but not sure if that would go over so well.. (people probably won't want to be filmed).. plus carrying it around all night around alot of drunk people (myself included).. but *could be* interesting..

Anyhow, also thinking.. how about mini-documentaries or other filming ideas.. anyone have anything interesting or not so interesting thoughts in general..

I was even *somewhat* considering bringing it to the next ESL get-together.. but not sure how people would feel about being filmed and such.. just another tangent thought..

I sense a new digital video craze goin on among the expat teaching community in Korea and I think thats cool. Derek (I think thats his name) and Jiyan Wei (forgive me if I butchered your name) did interesting stuff. Pusan web has some neat stuff too. I wish there was more available.

Maybe youre next? I hope so!

If I get back to SK then Ill be bringing my digital camera with me and capturin stuff.

Cheers,

Joe

I'm shooting a short doco on professional mourners in November. Budget will be about 100,000won. I will be using a run of the mill digital camera, and editing on a G3, with dc30 card installed. I have done heaps of shorts and music videos on that system. Its a great way to start and heaps of fun. Why don't you film a foreign band here on a roadtrip (Think: Bad News), or approach Arirang with some of your unique cultural perspectives + footage.

I want to take some footage from my scooter while riding through the downtown section at peak hour. Something to really capture the differences of here compared to home e.g. well...everything.

I got some great footage in Insadong. I found some things to stand up on which was at a four corners.. I stood up on top it.. but my video cam up in the air and just filmed the masses and masses of people coming from all 4 directions.. great footage.. zoomed in on a few groups here and there to capture how they maneuver in the crowds and such.. great footage.. and just that sea of heads bobbing up and down.. great stuff..

That's something that's on my shopping list as I really want to make some mini-docos about life in Korea before I leave. Derrek has made some videos and they look pretty good. Got me inspired. His post about them is on the Job Discussion Forum (too lazy to find the link)

One thing I want to do is capture the anarchic traffic in Korea... how people think it's perfectly OK to block a one way street with their car because they have those lovely little hand stitched pillows in the window with their mobile phone number on it Rolling Eyes I had a Korean male friend who was perfectly happy to triple park his car and leave it while we went shopping... "Oh, they'll call if they need me."

Motorbikes on the footpath, cars in bicycle lanes, children and adults with no sense of other people or awareness of "large, heavy moving objects on the road which could seriously injure or kill me"...

Oh, and eating out... galbi style... large slabs of raw meat brought out to the table... all those side dishes...

Oh man, lots of stuff!

Live in Taiwan, outside of Taipei for a while. You will think Korean traffic and driving standards are cream-of-the-crop. Once you see a few hit-and-runs in the mater of 24 hours you will have the proverbial zap put on your head.

Cheers,

Joe

Its just a little SONY camera..

I've been ambitous to think it would be really cool to do something for film festivals.. would be amazing! But just don't think I have the camera or the experience to start on something like that.. or the current ideas at the moment..

I was thinking of just personal stuff..

However, if there would be something of a documentary nature.. it would be cool.. and that is something I've definetely dreamed of in the past.. but realistically.. I think I'd have to invest in alot more equipment to be that ambitious..

Hmm... I'll have to find Derek's stuff.. I wonder why he'd post that stuff on the 'Job Discussion Links'.. to be honest, I go to that section about once a month.. the film stuff should be over here on this section I think.. anyhow, I'll have to search and find it.. sounds cool.. and would give great ideas as well..

I do agree about filming the streets and the gabli in particular.. thats alot of the stuff that you just completely forget about when you are home.. or you remember.. but to just throw in the VCR and show people exactly what its like.. would be cool..

I did film some galbi places in Shinchon.. I just love the whole atmosphere there.. since I wasn't eating.. I basically kind of filmed quick and got out.. another time I'd like to go with friends and have some filming of the entire process..

Okay, I gotta find some of Derek's stuff.. that sounds cool
