Have someone in your life you would die for.

Mine:

1. Make sure you have clean underwear on.
2. Provide a stable economic and emotional foundation for your dependents.
3. Read 'The Conquest of Happiness' by Bertrand Russell.
4. Don't take yourself too seriously.
5. If you think that life has no meaning, choose to give it a direction and let that direction be partly inspired by something that you enjoy.
6. Understand how you feel and instead of attributing it to the first train of thought that pops into your head try and consider it from a wider context and from a different perspective as objectively as you can. Factors such as bad weather, junk diet, low self-esteem, the hobbies you choose, your habits learned from your environment etc. are just some of the factors that can make a 5 minute late bus seem like a tragedy.
7. Learn from happy people, instead of envying them.
8. Make it your conscious goal to be happy and realize that you will never be happy 24/7.
9. Understand that your imaginative image of happiness may not necessarily correspond with the reality of that image.
10. Observe reality as it unfolds, not as you think it should/could be and let reality be your metre, not your thoughts or interpretation of it.

Getting high is a good one, traveling lets you look at different perspectives, getting high lets you see from a different perspective.
