Can anyone explain what a Potluck Party is.
There's a reference to one in my MS dialogue book and I've no idea what one is. I'm assuming it's an American party theme or something.
Thought I'd ask as I'm bound to get asked.
Cheers. |

It's a meal where everyone brings a dish to share. Typically I'd say potluck rather than potluck party same, same. |

It's called a potluck because, well, you never know the luck you will have with the pot (dish to bring). An organized potluck will have people sign up for the type of dish they bring, but I prefer the "suprise" variety.
My favorite California variation is the chili dump: Everyone brings their "secret chili" recipe and dump it all together in one pot.
Eat heartily, then take a dump later. |

Alternatively, everyone arrives at the party, strips off and then the lights go out.
Voila. Pot*uck. |

Everyone brings a dish, but one of them is a bowl full of turds in a rich, creamy sauce. You then eat blindfolded. |

So are we having a potluck dinner in Korea? Someone also needs to ensure that pot roast is prepared as the main meat. No, there is not pot smoking involved though it can include that if you want it to, just good food and friends having a pleasant Sunday afternoon together.
In America, the term, "potluck," tends to be something the elderly like to do just as they do ice cream socials, but young and middle aged adults enjoy good home cooked food too.
My favorite dish to bring was apple crisp and pumpkin pie. |

Speaking of potlucks in Korea, I've got a potluck Thanksgiving this weekend and don't cook. I also have one burner, no oven, and an hour travel time by subway and taxi. Recommendations other than bread? |

Got a costco membership? Costco used to carry avocados. Easiest thing in the world for these things is Guacamole and a bag of nachos.
Otherwise, some sort of pasta salad |

My Scottish friend didn't know what potluck meant either. He thought it was when you don't have food for a proper meal, so you just take whatever is in the kitchen and turn it into dinner. |
