Hi people.Want to do my M A while working in Korea. But ultimately I want to teach English Literature in University in the UK.So far I've been unable to find a course that will allow me to distance study for this subject while in Korea.Would it be better/possible for me to say, study something else such as Applied Linguistics(some unis do allow you to distance course this), then do some more courses in the UK in order to convert my M A to English Literature? Because I've been teaching ESL for years but don't want to be teaching it all my life;want to lecture in English Lit at a university in the UK. Thanks.

Here is just a small suggestion:

First of all, with an MA I doubt you will be lecturing in the UK, but then they could have lower standards than Canada. In most Canadian universities all an MA will get you is a TA position, and MAYBE teaching some freshman course. All for crappy pay.

Second, if your intention is to teach some form of English Literature, don't you think it prudent to take a year off working, go back to the UK, do an MA program and try to foster some connections with faculty over there? As well, your MA will be 100% legit.

For English Literature I am sure you will need access to library resources that are not to be found in Korea. I've looking into doing an MA and I cannot imagine working full-time and doing one in a year.

You might also want to look at teacher certification programs and return to the UK to teach high school lit. I hear they have demand as I know quite a few Canadians over there doing it.
