So after a long arduous journey i have finally signed my contract and gotten my Visa. I will be coming December 15th to start my year there. What i am wondering or hoping from posting this is some pearls of wosdom from all of you about what to expect. I have read alot and researched Seoul for the lat 8 months a feel pretty comfortable about coming, but you can never know everythig from just reading a book, or reading peoples blogs. So come with the advice, the knowledge that you have gained from being there. Ill be living within walking distance of Hongdae and Shinchon (Right by the Daeheung station). And working near the Mapo-gu station. Tell me good places to eat, the best grocery store, places to avoid, anything you feel may ease my trasition would really be appreciated. cheers |

Actually nothing can really prepare you for easing your transition. Reading about things helps but the hardest thing is dealing with cultural differences on every level in every interaction you have (plus communication difficulties).
One thing I can say is have your school write down your address for you as soon as you get here. This way if you get lost exploring or you need to take a taxi home you can just show them the address until you figure out how to communicate more efficiently.
Make photocopies of everything and don't give anyone an original of anything. Bring over the counter medicines to last you until you are comfortable enough to find alternatives here.
That's mostly what I've got. |

I think you'll have a good time and the year can only get better as you are coming when the weather is just starting to be quite cold. At least the honeymoon phase should cover the winter. |

Umm, I think he was referring to your incorrect spelling of December in your subject line.
If you're going to mock someone for mocking you, make sure you understand the original mocking first. |

Looking at these pics makes me laugh a little bit. I mean, the bottoms are good (short-shorts, mini-skirts) but the tops look like part of a children's costume. That usually seems to be the case here. I guess it's because the girls got mosquito bites for boobs |

Good that you are coming. Here is my tip...SAVE MONEY! Save money for a few months so when the school screws you over, you will have enough to survive.
Teacher: Help!!! My school has screwed me and I have no money.
Me: How long did you work there?
Teacher: Only 11 months.
Me: You have nothing after 11 months?
Teacher: DUH! |
