I just received word yesterday that there may be some rule regarding the length of stay foreign teachers can have in one school. I am currently finishing my third full-time contract at my public high school and was told by another public high school close by where I work part time that there is some rule prohibiting foreign teachers from staying more than three years at the same school.

Is this true, and if it is can you point me to some link that has the information? I like my current school and the other school would like to hire me full time, but I need to have the facts before I consider making a change.

I've heard about a four-year rule for Korean contract teachers. I know of a few cases of foreigners who have stayed at a particular public school for more than there years.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I have my co-teacher working on this question right now and hopefully I will have an answer by this afternoon. Once I have it I will post what I find out. It would be nice to stay in the same place, but I vaguely remember it having something to do with the fact that public schools receive three years of funding from the MOE, so they generally only keep the foreign teacher around for that length of time because they don't want to try and figure out how to fund the position when they are no longer receiving free money from the MOE to do it.

One of my best friends here has been teaching at the same girls' middle school for seven years.
