I know, stay away.... was just wondering if this might be one of the better ones? I did google the one in Suwon and saw a couple of negative things but they're from years back. Have a chance of an interview with them and I told the recruiter I wasn't interested but she's convinced they're brilliant, they've been established for years, etc etc. Should I chance it? I did fancy the public school position over private but it seems any decent Korea teaching job is a luck of the draw no matter where you're working.

Might be good to just wait to see what people say. The best thing to do (in my opinion) is if you have a Facebook account, type the name of the school in your search query there and e-mail some people to find out the inside scoop. Most people in the South Korea network, so there should be little trouble in finding a few names there and sending out a few e-mail messages.

Good luck.

I worked at a WL and it wasn't horrible. But it wasn't good either (a C- maybe).

Of course the recruiter will tell you what youwant to hear. Wonderland will give her , about a 1 mil if you sign.
Just cause they ve been established for years , I dont see what that means. What it means , is that every year they find suckers to rip off.

There are MANY Wonderland hakwons in Suwon.

I have heard a rumor that 1 of them is OK.

I know from first hand knowledge that the one in Yongtong-gu (across from Home Plus) and the one in Jangan-gu (by the big police station) are pure CRAP.

In both those cases you can expect to NOT get medical or pension, you will be overtaxed (3.3-5%) and the housing is very small (3m X 4m). You will be expected to prep and work up to 45 classes per week without overtime.

Be very careful when you talk to the current (FOREIGN) staff. Do NOT accept anything that the Korean staff / director tell you at face value or anything the foreigners tell you when they are at work. Chat with them by e-mail or when they are at home to get a better idea of the real conditions.

.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I'm best just avoiding it, it's all a bit vague what with not even knowing which school I'd be getting interviewed for.

That says it all right there. ONE MAYbe ok.

Avoid them all sounds safer.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! The poor foreign sod may be in such a bad position that the only way to get out of it is to sucker some other poor sod. I wouldn't believe word one from current foreign staff at a hagweon. I certainly wouldn't trust the vested-interest Korean staff at all.
