I'm hoping to reclaim a lot of my UK taxes from the last couple of times I was working in the UK.
As far as I can recall from my past experience there is no particular cut-off point for reclaiming taxes. If I just send in all the right paperwork I could reclaim tax from a couple of years ago can't I?
My reason for asking this is that Taxback.com, one of those pushy, mercenary companies that specialises in reclaiming taxes for people, is pressing me to reclaim my taxes through them. I hate it when they say in their email
"If we do not hear from you within the next 10 days, we will assume that you have chosen not to reclaim your income tax."
From what I know there is no deadline and these pricks are just using scare tactics. Also, the wankers would not even answer my simple question about what commision they will claim on my refund.
Doing my tax reclaim from Korea will not be as quick and simple as just getting Taxback.com to do it for me, but if I can be sure of reclaiming my tax independently then I won't touch these pricks with a barge pole.

Your best bet is to ring the inland revenue yourself and ask for their (free) advice.
I recently completed my 2007 Tax Return and claimed back British tax, the whole process is quite complicated in terms of what forms to fill out, but the woman from the expat team couldn't have been more helpful talking me through the whole process step-by-step.
The number I called was +44-191-419-8860
Though check the number printed on the front of your Tax Return documents to be sure.
Edit: have just noticed you're a Kiwi, if you're talking about reclaiming taxes from the Korean authorities then good luck, you're in for a rough ride. |

I also came across the very same firm and had the email bombardment from them including the next 10 days one. I just ignored them after the first time and sure enough once I actually persued things myself directly from the tax office things were very straightforward and surprisingly brisk.
I think if you delve very deep into their website the small print about their commission is hidden away and it ain't very pretty.
Do it yourself. It will save you lots of money, without much stress.
I don't know about any deadlines but even if there is one, I would guess it won't pass until at least the end of the current tax year so time is on your side.
Enjoy your money... |

I think the limit is 6 years, so you have nothing to worry about. I made a claim through the tax office and it was really easy... |

I was surprised how easy it was to do. In a world of mindless bueracracy and whatnot its pretty refreshing. |
