|
|
Here is the situation:
- My visa is over by 5 days.
- Last month the school agreed to an extension on my contract and said everything would be OK.
- I asked today about everything and my co-teacher looked at me blankly.
- I explained the seriousness of it all and they are now flying around the teachers room like headless chickens.
There will be a fine.
Who should pay?
Any words of advice will be welcome. |

Nevermind the date on your visa. What's the date on your ARC? |

Are you still spoon fed? Look after number one and don't step into number twos! |

I've been in the exact situation as you. This is what you do.
Phone the immigration office preferably with a cell phone. Explain your situation to the immigration officer. Most of them speak English. Once he or she appears to understand pass the cell phone to your coteacher.
She will completely change her tune from apathy to panic. Within hours all the appropriate documents will arrive.
I have once succesfully got my school to pay my fine. It was their fault. |

Morally your school is responsible. But you are responsible, ultimately, for not getting out of Korea based on your exit date on the back of your ARC. We come to this "ignorance of the law is no excuse". I feel for you. |

True, it is my fault that I didnt get out in time and it will be me that gets fined.
This is one of those moments to learn from. Never assume your school is sorting something out that you should be sorting out. And if they are, make sure you chase it up before its too late!
I will know better next time.
Thanks for advice given. |

Also never assume your school knows what they are doing.
You have to be on the verg of annoying when dealing with visa issues with your school. You have to start well before the end date and keep reminding them.
You should get everything together long before the due date.
You also need to prepare for incompatence and error.
Having a direct line between your coteacher and an immigration official is also a good idea |

Thanks for posting the outcome of your situation. One of my pet peeves on this board is someone coming on here asking for advice, then not coming back to report on the final result. I'd guess that your stress level went down a couple of notches, eh OP? |
