I used to do social work with individuals with developmental disabilities. One of the young women I worked with had mild downs and tricophagia.
These stories of girls having hairballs removed have been around for years, and the girls parents, to dissuade her from eating her hair, made a scrapbook of these articles. Whenever we caught her eating hair we were supposed to sit down and show her pictures of bezoars. As aversion therapy it eventually failed as someone told her about stones and goats and all that bezoar lore, so she would make goat sounds whenever we told her she was going to get a hairball. |
