Anyone know where the best rates for exchanging won to (NZ) dollars? Should I transfer it home through the bank, cash it at the airport or cash it at the bank? What gives me the best rate? |

When I went to the Philippines this summer, I exchanged some won here for pesos, and the same amount there there for pesos. I lost out on the exchange rate there. I exchanged about 300 dollars US in each airport, and the difference was about 10US less in the philippines. It seems the Philippines doesn't want to buy another currency, and in Korea they want to get rid of foreign currencies. |

Bank is probably better in some countries, but in the Philippines, the road side money changers beat everything... Don't know how that works in NZ though.... |

Neither, (if possible) go to the money exchange stores in Itaewon or Namdaemun. |

The money exchangers at the airport are the Korean banks, and they offer the same rates. |

They're all over in Itaewon and Namdaemun. The one I always go to is going straight out of exit 1 (I think - nearest the hamilton), then turn right down that first alley. It's there on the left, can't miss it. I go to that one because it's closest to the subway, but they're all around. |

There are also 2 across the street from the National Medical Center at Dongdaemun Stadium station. |

The money exchangers at the airport ARE Korean banks but they don't offer the same rates. The rates at the bank are better than at the airport. |

you really have to shop around for the best rate, but they change daily.
My Chase bank in the US is a complete rip-off, they charge a 15% commission on all money exchanges. |
