Hey folks!
I am currently looking to find employment in S.Korea and I have come across a few recruitment agencies on the TEFL website such as ATC Recruitment, Your Choice Recruitment, EJA ESL Jobs in Asia, Spanning Borders, .... Has anyone heard of them, or know of anyone who has went with them? I am not to sure whether to use the recruitment agency route or apply to posts directly from schools themselves. Please Help!
Are there any other recommended recriutment agencies, websites, ... to find jobs in S.Korea. |

I word of advice.
Recruiters number one priority is money and not you. They will tell everything you want to hear so they can get their commision.
I'm not saying don't use recruiters but be very cautious and demand what you want (to a resonable degree) because if they can't get it they don't get money.
South Korea is a relatively corrupt country and recruiters along with hagwon owners are some of the most corrupt people here. |

I would recommend Jennifer at Spanning Borders. She speaks perfect English, is up front and genuine. I would not recommend Smiling Korea, when my school went bankrupt, though initially appearing helpful, they lied to me about my entitlements and tried to help my school rip me off. If you have to go with a recruiter, make sure you can communicate with them adequately, if they don't speak English almost as well as you, forget them. Don"t let them push you into a position< they are generally interested in filling the position that has been vacant the longest< not in finding you the position you want. |

Beware of Patrick at the ATC recruiting agency. He has a thing for North American females and thinks that he is the Korean 'Don Juan'.
He works together at the office with his Korean girlfriend.
He tries to hit on every good looking female candidate and will invite you out for 'a night of Korean culture' once you arrive.
Only, his definition has nothing to do with temples, palaces, or Korean food. By his own terms, it has to do with a cheap bottle of Korean soju and him paying numerous compliments to you, trying to warm you up.
He is as greasy as they come.
If have experienced this, please add to this to let others know that this is a legitimate complaint.
He should try to be a little more professional and faithful. His poor girlfriend. |

I used Esl Spectrum recruiters when I was in Toronto. Sophia and Anthony hooked me up with a great teaching job in Seoul. They also told me that if I wasn't happy with my school they would find another one after I arrived. They also told me that if my apartment wasn't satisfactory they would personally put me into another one. I'm not sure if they would actually have done this for me or not, but luckily both my school and apartment were ok, so I didn't have to take them up on their offer. They were really helpful during my decision process and Anthony's english is very good. If you want their contact info pm me, however, now that I'm actually in Seoul, I would contact the schools directly for my next job. You'll be able to personally see the school and talk to the director and existing teachers. |
