I'm interested in teaching in Korea, but not until around summer 2008. Since most of the job posts seem to be ASAP or around March 2008, I was just wondering if schools were holding off on posting later jobs until the date gets closer, or if it's really just pretty much you need to apply for March or nothing. I'm interested for applying to epik which I saw sends out teachers in march and september, but I don't know if this is common for other schools or not. |

It is possible to get public school jobs any time of the year as positions are not all filled. I am guessing that you will probably see plenty of jobs in 2008 at all times due to many people not coming to Korea as a result of new visa laws. In 2007, I noticed many public school jobs at various times as I did keep an eye on the job listings out of curiosity.
I would seriously consider the risks of hagwons. Most will pay you month to month, but you may have problem at the very end as they don't like to pay 5 million won just to lose a teacher despite it being stated in the contract that they pay severance, final month pay, and return airfare. If going with hagwon, you will always have to fight for what you earned and deserve, but public school is government job where you just have to talk to people instead of playing a game of chess.
Come when you are ready... |
