I am wanting to get a new desktop computer soon and am not too sure exactly what I should be getting for the money these days.
So here is the question for you tech forum guys. Assuming that you were incapable or unwilling to assemble a PC yourself and you had, say, 750,000 won or thereabouts; what would you leave Yongsan with? |

I assembled one once, but seeing as they charge a very small amount of money to assemble them, I will never bother with doing it myself again.
Check out www.icoda.co.kr for some good ideas of prices. I tend to like getting quality components for the mainboard, HDD, and power supply. The rest doesn't matter so much, and is easily replaced.
I'm a big fan of putting two HDDs in RAID if you want real speed. You'll notice more of a speed increase with that than you will with changing up to the top-of-line CPU, if you're buying one close to it. Cuts boot times in half. |

I ordered most of my new PC from icoda. Good service and same prices as Yongsan. Plus, unlike Yongsan, they actually have the items they advertise in stock!!! The last few times I tried to order something from Yongsan through the Danawa site my wife would just get a phonecall the next day...."sorry, that's not in stock but would you like to buy this thing instead???!!"......ridiculously bad service.
But if you don't use a credit card then you have to go to Yongsan. Good luck!!
750,000 should get you a nice mid-range system. What are you going to use it for? |

750k won NOT including monitor will get you a decent system.
Q6600 or E6750
2 gigs RAM
GT7600 video
320 gig HDD
DVD burner
+ the usual periferal IO devices.
- Good for 5+ years as a work horse system for your average user.
- Good for 2 years (with a video upgrade later) as a gamer.
Great for multi-tasking (quad cores) but no major improvement in performance if the software is not designed to take advantage of the quad cores.
If that is the case, use a dual core E6750 for example, and use the price difference in the chips to get a bigger or more HDD space.
If you are using a 64 bit system (xp-pro64 or vista ultimate 64 bit) then up your RAM to 4 gigs.
Pick your favorite shop.... assembly is about 20k won. |

thanks for the replies so far... unfortunately its pretty certain i will have to go to yongsan as i dont use a credit card here. I will be using it for gaming some of the time (i'm a binge gamer)
It doesnt have to be top of the line, as long as it can run anything that is out right now i will be happy.
A few more things at the risk of sounding stupid.
Does 250k for a fancy monitor sound reasonable?
Will Vista in English be a problem?
will it have an s-video port as standard? (i want to hook it up to the tv) |

250k can get you a decent LCD monitor these days. I would be hoping for a 21inch widescreen for that money.
If you don't mind a little piracy then downloading is a good way to get Windows in English. That's if the shop you buy from don't have a copy laying around that they could install for you.
Almost all graphics cards have an S-video connection. |

I don't know about icoda (they're a larger shop) by MOST of the smaller shops will assemble anything you want, and put on a crack of XP SP1 in Korean for nothing. |

Set it on "auto" updates and it works just fine AND gets all the updates too. |
