				| More Info on Sex Offenders Available Next Year
The Government Youth Commission announced Wednesday that the Juvenile Sex Protection Act will be modified to improve the protection of children from sex crimes.

The revised law is expected to reveal more personal details of sex offenders such as their picture, residence registration number, home address, place of work and license plate number.

The commission says up until now only a limited amount of information has been available on those who have committed sex crimes against juveniles. Since the information of their whereabouts was not available to the public, it made protecting children that much more difficult and getting such sensitive information required complicated procedures.

However, starting Feb. 4 caretakers of children such as parents and teachers will be able to easily access offenders' personal data through the local police station and online through the Youth Commission's website.

The registered child sex offenders list open to the public is at present composed of 380 males, three females and three foreigners. By profession, there are 42 office workers, 107 unemployed, 22 self-employed and 22 teachers.

This is a significant development for Korea, but the system is still in its early stages compared to regulations in other countries.

For instance in the U.S., the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act signed by the president last year organizes all sex offenders into three categories in which the highest-level offenders must register and update their address every three months.

				| Haven't they already tried this. A few years ago the Government tried to make public anyone found guilty of improper sex conduct, including sex with a prostitute.
I know a few high profile individuals who got caught having sex with a minor managed to get their details removed from the list. That sure sucks. The rich and powerful always manage to beat the system
