I want to plan a trip to Dok island. I am not even sure if it is possible to go there. The Korean people I've asked said they also didn't know.
Has anyone ever done this? Anyone else interested in going? I'm thinking of going the weekend of December 8th.
I've had some friends make it as far as Ulung-do which is near Dok-do. If I have to, I would settle for Ulung-do. |

I wouldn't be surprised if 'foreigners' aren't allowed there. Or, were discouraged in some way.
(TV spots aside.) |

I haven't been to either, so this may not be helpful. I have heard of trips going to Dokdo, you should be able to get a boat to take you there from Ulleungdo. From what Ive seen though, Dokdo isn't really worth going to, but Ulleungdo seems really remote and interesting. I have been meaning to go there for a while now. go to Ulleungdo and charter a boat of you can. I bet plenty of Koreans want to go there and a few fishermen will have had experience taking people there even if a formal tour does not exist yet. |

I went last year...
Because of bad weather it took just under 3 hours to get there from Ullengdo, and we only stayed on the "island" for about 30 minutes...
Not much to see, rocks and soldiers, but it was interesting to see how emotional people were about the place.. before they cheesed out and unraveled huge banners for photo ops that is..
The most memorable part for me though was the ride there and back.. I bet 85% of the people on the boat got sick... It's was vomit-mania.. and people spread out on the floor everywhere...
thankfully I wasn't one of them, and as someone mentioned Ullengdo is fantastic.. I really liked the place... rumour was that there was only one native teacher living on the whole island... |

Dokdo is certainly nothing more than bird shit covered rocks. But if you feel strongly about Korea's land dispute, maybe you'd like to see it.
Ullengdo is worth seeing, I have heard from many.
3 hours to Dokdo? It's only 80 some km away. |
