I'm looking for an English language Progressive Christian church and/or discussion group in Seoul. (See www.tcpc.org/about/8points.cfm for an overview of Progressive Christianity.)
Please post the link or contact info if you know of any such organization.
Thanks! |

I'm very much interested in it. If anything starts up in Seoul, then do get in touch with me.
Cheers! |

Koreans need to see Christians who are actually open-minded, and ones that don't yell at you while they wear funny hats. |

Is a Unitarian church too different, cuz I'm certain there has to be at least one in this city. |

You know, a friend of mine, who happens to be the wife of a church pastor, told me that years ago, there was this big struggle in the Assemblies of God church in the USA (Fundamentalist as they come) over using instruments in worship.
NO GUITARS!
Now they allow lots of guitars. Oh, how times have changed! |

Well, if you have faith and you're monogamous, I don't personally have a problem with it. Others are even more liberal than I am. I mean, they have people like John Spong as a part of this group. |

There is no such thing as progressive Christianity.
Progressive Christians would have to admit that many of the tenets of their beliefs are bunk, then go on and ammend them to the real world. It's not impossible, but unpopular. Christians, by and large like to believe that their text is uncompromising.
DON'T INVOKE THE MFING BIBLE IF YOU AREN'T PREPARED TO STAND BEHIND THE REST OF WHAT IT SAYS!
That, or recognize that it's a living document, meant to be interpreted differently as time passes.

No matter how progressive thou art, thou shalt not question the word of the LORD!

i have yet to meet a christian who wasn't an idiot that actually believed all the tenants of the church.
reunification of the body and soul of everyone who has ever lived to be accounted for at the last judgement. yeah. i wanna see that one- everyone who has ever lived alive and well in the flesh at the same time. about 15 billion folks, lotsa of them just mere babes all assembled waiting for 99.99% of us all to spend eternity in hell. |

Here's an article from 2005 that seems to be similar to what the OP's talking about:

Do you include Catholics as being Christians? If so, Catholics don't believe in the literal truth of the bible. Catholics recognize that many (not all) of the stories in the bible are just that (a story) that is meant to teach an important lesson.
The Catholic Church also doesn't deny the theory of evolution.
But you are right about other christians (protestants, presbyterian). Those guys believe everything that's written in there. |

Oh, if only! I've been here five years, and have not been able to find anything except for a Quaker meeting behind Ewha Women's University. I prefer a more structured, progressive environment, but the Quaker meeting is quite nice if you are unable to find anything else.
