Before I came here, I met a woman on Dave's who had been in Gwangju for years teaching at a a uni. She gave me ner number and we chatted at length about what I was in for. She was always available to talk me through the initial hard times, i.e., hagwon owner won't give back the diploma, apt., has no heat, etc.
I can never thank her enough.
Anyway, one jewel she told me about was the International Clinic in Seoul.
The doctor there, Dr. Kim, has a degree from a US medical school. His English-e is better than mine.
I went to him to the first time to get a refill on a med I had been taking for years. I showed him my US bottle, told him why I was on the med and two minutes later his nurse was giving me a bottle of the same meds to take home.
Yesterday, I had a walk-in visit, sat down and explained that a sinus infection has caused me to have a lung infection which I thought was bronchitis. A quick check and bingo-bronchitis. Twon minutes and meds and on my way. No BS. No chest x-ray like they do at my local hospital just because they want the extra cash-e.
I'm only bringing this up because I had pink eye in another city, went to a doctor and was given medicine that actually made the infection worse. And, I had athlete's foot in the same "another city" and was given this super drug that should never be taken unless you have a blood check to make sure your liver can handle it; which the doc did not give me.
So- if you are new or old here, need a doctor who speaks English-e perfect and understands silly things that some Korean doctors do not like "side-effects", please make the trip to Seoul.
I took a candain co-worker there yesterday and in 20 minutes she was able to accomplish what she said woul've taken weeks back home. She got her "back home" meds, a flu shot, vaccinations, etc., and paid HALF of what it would have cost her in the Canadia.
sorry for the spelling errors- i teach english-e, not typing.

The clinic is ok but you have to pay twice as much for English service. I just got a school check-up done at a local clinic for 35,000. The international clinic charges 70,000.
The clinic is good for referrals and getting whatever meds you want but I've never seen that doctor move from his chair. He just hears your problem and then writes a prescription. That's it.
I'm looking for a better clinic now. |
