I've been in my job at a hogwon for 9 months. I like the people I work for, and other than a couple of bumps, it's been fairly smooth sailing. However, as nice as they are, they know nothing about business nor do they have any people skills and they've pretty much shot themselves in the foot.
The school census has gone from 61 in my English classes when I arrived to 33 as of today. Virtually all of these losses have been since June, and it's going to continue. Although they've paid me on time (the one time they didn't, I screeched and was paid in full that day) they are behind with the other teacher, who is illegal, not from the 7 nations, and earns less than half what I do.
My contract is up February 19. I'm concerned about being paid severance and ticket home money because of their financial woes. I'm actually also concerned about being let go early...the contract requires that they give me two months notice if they want me to leave, and they have to have "cause." Two months from today would take me up to less than 30 days from end of contract.
I have these potential "hammers..." Pension has not been paid, they have underreported my income in order to contribute less to the National Health Service, they have an illegal teacher, they have (very slightly) over withheld income tax, and I've never received a "pay stub," or anything showing what I earn, deductions etc., despite asking for it numerous times, however I have all the deposits of my pay into my bank.
Suggestions? Advice? I don't want to play hardball unless it becomes necessary, but I am willing to play hard as rock ball if it becomes necessary. |

Ask for a letter of release. They might be relieved to get you off the payroll. |

You aren't getting a fair deal and they are crooked. You are worried about playing hardball?
The worst thing that could happen is that immi finds out about the illegal teacher and that poor person gets fined. |

U.R.S.O.L I'm afraid.
Looks like you will have to just wait and see and play hardball if and when it happens. Not much else you can do. if you were at the 6 month mark i'd say just quit, but you're not. |
