Can anyone tell me how long the C4 temporary work visa is valid for?

- Is it 3 months, or 40 days? Or can it be both depending on how much you need it for and how much extra you pay?

Actually, I am pretty sure (but I have been known to be mistaken and do not have 1st hand information) that they are 90 days (not 120) because they do NOT require alien registration (which is required for ALL visas of over 90 days EXCEPT the Canadian B2.

You do know that the C4 Visa carries a taxation rate of 22-27%, right? That means a 2,000,000 Won salary for one month's work will be slightly less than 1,500,000 Won in your hands. Are you aware of that?

Really? C4 is the standard winter/summer camp visa right? So anyone working at a camp (on a C4) is paying such high tax?? Shocked

Yupper. 40 foreign teachers found that out the hard way on January 31st, 2006 after getting their pay stubs from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies for their one-month winter camp. They got really ugly.

Be ye warned.

Is it possible that this might have changed? I spoke to a recruiter about a winter camp today, and she told me the tax rate for C4 is 10%.... I wonder how true this might turn out to be?

Why do people believe only what they want to hear? Your recruiter is LYING to you. They're just moving bums into chairs. That's what they're paid to do.

Just check in with the National Tax Service (NTS).

http://www.nts.go.kr/eng/default.html Download the guide or call them on the site. Every page is default.htm or I'd send you the link directly.

I could be wrong of course. But I believe the last word is still 22%-27%. That's a drop from 2,000,000 Won to 1,450,000-1,500,000 Won.

I have a contract for a winter camp in my hot little hand that states "In accordance with Korean laws, a 3.3% income tax shall be deducted from the Teacher's wage. No other deductions of any type whatsoever shall be deducted from the Teacher's wage without the Teacher's prior consent."

What fricken' 22% tax are you talking about? And I went to the site posted above and I couldn't find anything about a C4 visa being taxed. I haven't read anything about this on the consulate site under the C4 visa either. I think those above teachers may have been swindled. If I'm wrong please set me straight before I buy my ticket to Seoul Exclamation

Please just call the National Tax Centre and ask what is the income tax on a C4 Visa.

Your contract is wrong, and probably deceptively phrased. It is worded 'in accordance with Korean laws' and that means in the event that they're wrong (which they know they are) when they take the appropriate C4 Visa tax amount off, that is what they'll revert to, as they apologize. They know no one will come if they list what is correct.

And the aforementioned teachers had the intervention of the National Tax Service, because one of the accusations was that the University Camp was telling the teachers one thing, and reporting a different tax to the country, and pocketing the difference. So the NTS started their own queries.
