I reported about 2 weeks ago that my local Mcdonalds ran out of it all. Today, the store manager who speaks some English was working.

Well, now it's no Big Macs and other things until 3 PM. Only bulgoggi and shrimp burgers until 3 PM. I explained that Big Macs for lunch is the main focus of the McDonalds brand and that I had no problems in Busan, Daegu, Gyeongju, and Seoul getting Big Macs for lunch on weekends and on vacation. She said, no Big Macs until 3 PM due to being too sold out. I was like, can you buy more supplies? She said, sorry.

It was 1 PM and I asked if I could eat breakfast instead just to rub in the fact that lunch is not available despite having been up since 8 AM. They said no, you can try bulgoggi or shrimp. I told them I would go have some chicken instead. She said, sorry.

What a Mcdonalds, I might as well not even try to get my Big Mac attack on. I did earlier in the year quite often since it's just a 10 minute bus ride away, but then this no Big Mac until 3 PM stuff hit us in the past month. Someone call Mcdonalds supply truck to Changwon please. LOL

I really don't care as I am willing to live outside of cities, but I would like to have a taste of the west here and there. Guess I need to go to the big city on weekends, but I am too busy climbing mountains and then relaxing for that kind of travel if not a long weekend. (like when does a long weekend come along?) Almost never. Totally LOL

the mcD's in siji dong in daegu sucks. they seem to randomly decide when to cut off breakfast instead of keeping it til 11 am. this is mcdonald's. how about some continuity people!

Step 1: Stop eating McDonald's.

Step 2: If you insist on eating at McDonald's (see step 1), use the mighty power of the pen and contact the corporate office in the USA. You (and the offending store) may be in for a surprise, yours being better than theirs.

I like fast food and I share the OP's pain. But to point 2 I agree. McDonald's I believe is wholly owned by the parent corp in the USA. Many chains in Korea just license the name. Long and short of it, this McDonald's isn't fulfilling its franchising agreement. I suspect the franchise owner isn't paying his bills.

I use this strategem most of the time, but once a month or so I like to break up the monotony that is Korean food with something that does not contain gochujang. Fast food chains should supply what they advertise, or if they are not going to sell the items in question take them off the menu.

But I agree with writing corporate. I've done it twice** and gotten good results, incl. a response and apology from corporate, free shit, and a marked improvement from the branch franchise in question.

**(1) KFC: for not making me a new zinger without tomato when I told them "no tomato, I'm allergic". They just took an old zinger and removed the tomato...didn't find out until I had already taken a bite. This happened several times (although I only got caught eating it that first time).
**(2) BK: the counter clerks squealing in fright when I approached the register, running away into the back and fighting over who would serve the foreigner. I had to get the manager to force one of them to the register and take my order. Their phobia of speaking English didn't come into it because I was speaking Korean.

I remember my first McDonalds experience in Korea. The young girl at the counter was standing at the register, and shouted 어서 오세요 as I came in, and paid no attention that I am not Korean.

I ordered by pointing and she asked me something in Korean. I didn't understand, so I said 'here' and pointed down. She took my money, gave me change and my food, said some more words in Korean, and that was it.

Gee whiz, she treated me just like she treats all the other customers. Smart girl.

Which is why my BK experience cheesed me off.

I normally don't eat at McDonald's here b/c I don't like cheese on my sandwiches, and trying to order a Big Mac without cheese is more frustrating than it needs to be. The thing I don't get is, every time I visit a fastfood place (KFC, Lotteria, or Burger King mostly), I end up waiting 3 - 5 minutes while they make the sandwich or fry the fries. If everything is MTO, why is it so difficult to leave off an ingredient? (That's rhetorical). I know that a Big Mac comes a certain way, and to change an ingredient would cause it to cease being a Big Mac, and there are times when I like that system (after working at a McDonald's as a student, I have little patience for people who order well-done or rare patties, fries with half salt and pepper, cheeseburgers with no bun, a hamburger with Big Mac ingredients, a patty with breakfast bagel seasoning, and other asinine varieties). Anyway, the Gwangju McDonald's loses about 4,000 won of my business every semester, so shame on them.

It sucks that you can't get the Big Mac before 3, because isn't there a special on where all set menus are 3,000 won between 11 am and 3 pm? Do they anticipate running out of ingredients or something?

I'd seriously write to the corporate headquarters in Chicago and tell them about it. It's cause for concern (I'm not being facetious) if a franchise isn't operating per procedure.

There's not even a McDonald's in the country bumpkin town of 300,000 that i live/teach in. They DO have Baskin Robbins, Dunkin' Donuts, Pizza Hut and Dominoes though.

I haven't been to a fastfood joint for a good year or so.If I had a hankering to though,I'd expect to see the basic items. If I went to McDs,cos I had no food at home, and there was nothing else to buy,I'd expect to see BigMac there.Heck,it's just a couple of patties and buns all stacked up.

If I wanted a bulgogi or shrimp burger I'd go to a Lotteria. Rolling Eyes

Yeah,I'd write to head office. It's a bit annoying to have individual stores decide their own ways of doing things.

I'd only even walk into McDs because it's meant to be standardised.Take that away and there's no reason to walk through the doors.
