i'm going to be visiting my g/f in korea in two weeks i have a oneway ticket as i am not sure on my departure date (i'm just playing it by ear with work at home) and where i'm going to depart to. I am coming from Canada
What will custom require? In particular do i have to have a return ticket? Any relevant information will be a big help.
I should mention I am bringing her dog with me as well, will this complicate anything? |

Maybe you won't have any problems here in Korea as, more likely than not, the airline won't allow you to board in the first place. For a tourist visa, you need proof of onward transportation. Bringing the dog requires paperwork and proof that someone will be receiving the critter at the destination.
Check with the Korean Consulate closest to you for more information. |

I came here on a one way ticket. I was worried about not being let in, so I bought a fully refundable return ticket as well. They never asked to see it, or anything, and since it was a different flight, would not have showed up in their system. Just make sure you write that you will be leaving within 30 days or whenever a Canadian tourist visa expires. |

Really? That's good that it worked out for you. The posts that I have been reading have said that you should always have a round trip ticket just to avoid the hassle. I guess it depends. |

Thats why I bought a fully refundable return ticket...just in case. But it never came up. I just refunded it after I got settled here. |

i tried to go to korea from Australia, and i can have a 90 day stay without a visa. i'd booked my ticket in korea to go to aussie in the first place, so i had a return ticket to korea, and had made a booking for my next trip back to aus in begining of Feb.
not okay.
the airline refused to let me board, stating that if immigration didnt let me in, they'd get a fine as well as myself being sent back, dont know how much bullshit that was, but i managed to wake up my husband in korea at 6am and get him to buy me a fully refundable ticket from korea to aus at a crazy price. i managed to board with 10 minutes to spare. (might partly be due to the fact my husband had been drinking for work the night before and fell asleep after i first called him in my panicked state)
point is, why risk missing your flight? just book a return ticket that allows a free date change, or a fully refundable ticket. |

I came here with no visa, and no return ticket at all, as my hagwon told me only to buy one-way at the moment for reimbursement. Anyway, I had literally zero problems getting into the country, and didn't even have to say anything about how long I was staying or anything when I arrived.
I just got off the plane, and went straight to where I needed to be.
Good luck, and have fun |

Did you have to get a tourist visa in order to enter the country. Did you tell immigration that you were coming to teach or what? I've read conflicting things online as to how approach Korea with an E2.
I may have to come without an E2 due to lack of time. Just wondering how others have dealt with this situation. |

ok this should probably be made a sticky eventually...IT IS LEGAL FOR YOU TO ENTER KOREA WITHOUT AN ONWARD TICKET...HOWEVER, and this is a big HOWEVER, the airline can and will sometimes refuse you to board a plane without an onward ticket...onward can be a ticket that shows you leaving the country or a return ticket home...people will tell you both sides saying they had no problem getting in without another ticket, others will say they were not allowed on...
remember this only applies if you DON'T have a visa ahead of time.
so the best advice someone can take from all of this is that its better to be safe than sorry...get a return or onward ticket that is fully refundable and save yourself any possible headaches at the airport... |
