Final bid for Kosovo compromise
Serbia and ethnic Albanian leaders have restated their entrenched positions over Kosovo's future status at last-ditch talks in Austria.
Ethnic Albanian leaders said they would not back down from their demand for full independence from Serbia.
Belgrade said it would not give up "an inch" of the province.
The two sides, with mediation from the European Union, Russia and the United States, have until the UN deadline of 10 December to clinch a deal. |
How bad an idea is an independent Kosovo? Of the governments that support the idea, which will be the first to regret it, when the Kosovo precedent is brandished? I'm sorry, blandished.
Should the day come, Kosovo independent, it will have been one of the slickest robberies, albeit in part a crime of opportunity, in geopolitical history. (Yes, BB, on par with the partition, way back last century.)
There, I've said it. |

I used to work with a bunch of ethnic Albanians. Great guys, absolute salt of the earth.
I also used to go to school with some Serbians. Really incestuous with their serbinity, even though born in Canada.
I'll have to go out on a limb and say I side with the Albanians on this one. |
