Is there power in numbers?????? I'd like a well functioning website where people can communicate "at will". Seems like Dave's is always down or almost so.
Maybe I get the error more often than others for some reason. If so, maybe others can fill me in otherwise. BUT, I suggest that since it has been some time and a long time since Dave and Co. has known about this problem, something should have been addressed by now. Seems nothing is going to be done.
So should we the client base (yes, we don't pay but it is through our "number" that he is able to charge "X" fees - so we do have some legitamacy here and it isn't just an arguement of "go somewhere else"), should we as the client base do something about this?
I suggest we should. This can be in the form of emailing all Dave's subscribers and atleast letting them know about the problem. This might get some service. They are easily "contact"able, just click contact on any website and notify. I will post a very easily pastable message in the future. Hope I won't have to.

PS> likely we will be told nothing, nothing will be done. Almost as likely, we will get a reply that states, "it is not our problem" , nothing we can do......but as we know, money and numbers usually are able to solve most things....
PPS. not a Dave's addict but just a hell raiser. |

I get it quite frequently, too. No other website that I frequent (or have frequented) has ever had such a problem. |

Dave dedicates about as much effort in keeping this forum running smoothly as most ESL teachers in Korea dedicate effort to their lesson plans.

Hell yeah!!!
A lot of people are saying "don't rock the boat" or "it's free". Remember though Dave makes his money from visits. I for one have been cutting down on the number of visits that I make. Less traffic, less money!
Seriously...It drives me freakin insane..... |

Yeah, I don't buy this "it's free so we shouldn't complain about it" argument. It sucks and and we're gonna complain about it. what we need is a little dialog with the management around here. what exactly is the problem? what does it take to fix? how can we, the users, help?
I would just like to hear something like this "our server costs XXX and it handles YYY users and when it's over that we get errors. to avoid these errors we need ZZZ." and then we can deal with what ZZZ entails. but how about a little information?
i just think this board shouldn't be left to rot. |

C'mon Dave...or hired lackey...do something about this stuff...surely you can afford to buy a few more chips or modems or servers or whateveryamacallit that it would take to allow you to load a page. Ironically enough I got the message when I tried to load this very thread!! haha........I leave every time I get the message...if not for hours ...for days...multiply me by a lot more than me and you get a lot more people walkin cause this site is obviously poorly maintained. C'mon now kids...get your act together....so far at an 18 to 2 count the poll speaks very loudly and clearly. |

Money, it's a crime.
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie.
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that they're
giving none away.
"HuHuh! I was in the right!"
"Yes, absolutely in the right!"
"I certainly was in the right!"
"You was definitely in the right. That geezer was cruising for a
bruising!"
"Yeah!"
"Why does anyone do anything?"
"I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!"
"I was just telling him, he couldn't get into number 2. He was asking
why he wasn't coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
screaming and telling him why he wasn't coming up on freely.
It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out" |

Oh, this post will be deleted...
Dave has to have the money to update the site. A job post costs $75, and you see how many are posted per day, plus $75 for some time using the resume database.
A friend of mine had a nice long conversation with Dave at an ESL thingie in Busan. He's freakin' rich from this site, and he micromanages everything. He personally approves each member, job ad -- each transaction.
Yet out of all sites I use when I'm hunting for teachers, it's the most antiquated. The technology is stuck in 1997. Nonetheless, since it's the most popular site for resumes, I still have to cough up the money and use it, filtering through some of the strangest resumes out there.
A little off topic...
If you want some Freaky Waygook amusement, go look at the resumes on WorknPlay and see the types of pictures and resumes people seriously post when looking for jobs. My favorites are the ones are the party shots where the candidate is hugging a friend with a beer in his hand with an arrow pointing to which one he is. |

*rant*
This is without a doubt the most frustrating web-site that I have ever used.
Do I give money to Dave? Not exactly, but I generate traffic, and that translates into money somewhere down the line.
I just tried to put all the restaurant threads together into one as a public service (since no one's made any of them into stickys, ever) and kept getting that damn "phpBB, Critical Error" message.
I'm on vacation now, so I've been posting a lot, but I won't be posting so much unless this is cleaned up. I won't have the time.
For how long have people been complaining about this?
P.S. I got that f###ing message just now, as I was trying to submit this very post! |

Dave: Whoo! That was intense! Pass me a smoke, hun. I haven't had a workout like that since...well, ever. Was it good for you, too?
SO: phpBB : Critical Error. Could not connect to database.

This site has WAY lotta traffic though, more than ANY board that I've EVER visited (probably because most of us are alienated from K-society and are sitting at home in the dark posting away like minks).
I'm not a techie, but what would this many posts and that many standing visitors (averages like 50 online at any one time in my observation), and that many current members (10k?) cost in money and/or server speed/memory space to handle all that? |
