If you can't attend, then you don't get assigned to begin work at a school. |

I attended, albeit for about an hour before one of my co's came and whisked me away.
At night, think of it as a unique networking oppotunity to acquaint yourself with some meaningful and sophisticated FTs i.e. a golden chance to meet some truly awful degenerate alcoholics, many of whom should have never been issued with a passport. If you're lucky, you may even get to share your hotel room with one for a night or two.
During the day you'll do some other stuff. |

Unless the teacher has a pre-arrangement with EPIK. |

I've been here for 4 years. I'm married and don't need an introduction in Korea. However, I would like to go to the workshops. |

I'm not sure what you'd hope to learn from what I saw. If you've been here for 4-years already, then they'd probably learn more from you whilst propping up the hotel bar than they ever will in one of the (dis)orientation seminars.
I suppose for the unititiated it would seem like a cool thing to do, at least, it certainly did for me, but from the feedback that I received from some of the older heads out here, it's a pretty redundant exercise, as you'll pretty much figure everything out that they tell you in the first few weeks anyway. |

I managed to skip it, as I started at my school in June. A friend of mine went to the one in August near Gongju. She said on the first night on campus, a load of people went out boozing not realising that they locked the gates of the Uni. When the organisers and lecturers turned up in the morning there was a load of freezing cold alcoholic FTs, by the gates, waiting to get back in after having been stood outside all night. So so smart!
Big big shame that I missed this!!! |
