Between the board of Korean professors and lone foreign English teacher that drilled me today during my interview. I appreciate that only the Foreign English teacher actually asked me a question about teaching English.

How can you call it a 'drill' if the questions weren't about teaching?

Did they ask you like they do with Koreans about your age, religious affiliation, marital status, parents education levels and monthly income earnings?

You're right. I wasn't exactly "drilled". Typically they asked nothing about English.

Tell me about yourself?
Where are you from?
Where did you go to college?
Do you attend church here?
What does your parents do?
Why did you come to Korea?
Do you like Korea?
Where is your college located? "I haven't heard of it"

The thing that sucks is that you have to answer all that and then your interview is over. I left there without being given the opportunity to express ANY of my English teaching abilities. The competition for universities is good. I've seen some of the best looking teachers I've seen anywhere at these, not your typical backpack teachers.

I don't know the trick to these interviews though, but if you have a Masters AND university experience, you're golden. These University jobs are about the only thing I see worth staying around here for. My year's finished, my yellow fever is diminishing, it's cold, I walk around hungry and can't find any food that appeals to me, everything looking the same, the music is driving me crazy, other than that, life is great!!!

Ohh and the only way to alleviate my frustrations is by spending the money I'm supposed to save. Go figure

You also have to be "old enough." That age could be 28, it could be 30...

I'm gonna go ahead and say between 35 and 55 is the sweet spot for uni. Older or younger and you're getting too young or too old. Your approval ratings will drop so strike while the iron is hot and shoot for the stars!

Oh don't sweat it. Try to go to as many uni. interviews as possible. Why? They like to give away really nice gifts and money. Also, the group interviews give you a chance to meet other uni. Instructors and hear all the stories about what it's like to work at different universities. Say, did they give you anything at the interviews to thank you for your time? If not, be thankful you didn't get the job.

That's right. They are also some of the best teachers in Korea with great personalities. I've stayed in contact with a few fellow applicants I've met at these interviews.
