I'm going to Thailand over winter break, but I have a layover in Taipei for a night. Any recommendations on a place to sleep? Does one need a tourist visa to leave the airport? |

In the airport at Taipei you will come to a desk for overnight stay.
I went through them, they put you in a minibus and to a hotel about 30 minutes drive away. They pick you up the next day.
Can't remember how much the hotel cost - it was fairly average.
There's quite a good restaurant opposite the hotel.
You get a tourist stamp in your passport as you go through immigration. |

There's also a transit hotel at the airport. I stayed there last year on my way to SE Asia. It's probably more expensive than the off-airport option (I forgot how much I paid), but it cuts down on the hassle of going somewhere else and not knowing your way around. It's located near a couple of restaurants (including Subway) and Starbucks (for your morning caffeine needs). There's also a lounge with free Internet terminals. If you want to reserve a room there, call or send an e-mail. The number is (or was) 886-3383-4510 and the e-mail address is (or was) [email protected].
Let me guess: you're flying EVA, right? Their daily flight out of Seoul is poorly timed for onward connections. As much as I like the airline, they're not the most convenient option unless you're just going to Taipei (which I am, in 2 weeks). Good luck. |

Oh, that sounds much better. It was a bit of a hassle going to the off-airport hotel. |
