i've been debating whether or not to get a tree for christmas. are u putting up a tree? and if so, where did u buy it?

The question is "Why?"

Since it is a pagan holiday tradition, anyone doing it for Jesus' birth is playing into the man-made church's rouge of combining Jesus' birthday with a pagan holiday.

If you do it for presents that magically appear under it at Christmas, then it's awesome.

our old tree took a beating in our move so we bought a new one last week (2.1 metres). I'll be putting it up this weekend.

I will get one, maybe this afternoon. I looked for one at Homever in Yatap last weekend but they didn't have any. I also plan to buy myself some Christmas presents to put under it. I already ordered some books. I'll make a Christmas dinner, too. I've been a good boy this year and I deserve it.

I've been through Christmases with no tree, no presents, no turkey. No nothing. Too depressing.

I brought mine with me, but I haven't put it up yet. Been collecting Hallmark ornaments for the past 8 years and have quite a few. My wife is going to be in the states the entire week of Xmas, so I don't really feel too festive this year.

I just got a little fake one from some stationary store or something a few years back. It's not terribly expensive, and lots of little stores sell mini ornaments designed to go on them.

No, but it's not a bah humbug thing. I just don't think I need a tree when I live alone.

I bought one last Thursday, and got the lights, some decorations, tinsel and a star on Saturday. I put it up Saturday night and have been getting in the festive mood listening to Christmas music and putting the lights on!

This is my first Christmas away from my family, so haven't got a clue what to do on the actual day now I'm on my own this year.

I bought it all from Lotte Mart in Bundang for 20,000W including the bus far to get there

Has anyone ever actually seen a real tree here? I've only ever seen the tacky plastic kind (which of course is what we put up last year). This year, we're leaving the ROK just in time for Christmas. So no tree for us. (Unless stressful moves cause trees to grow )

I live in SE Seoul, near GS Mart. They had a pretty good selection of artificial trees. I bought one that is about 1 meter tall for W35,000. You can get similar sized ones for W48,000 fully decorated. I chose the undecorated because that's the fun of having a tree.

I think I scored BIG on decorations this year. GS Mart had a whole section of decorations, nearly all of which were the kind you pick up and show your friends and cackle at how tacky they are, but in amonst the trash were a few keepers. For example, I found white plastic snowflake chains. The snowflakes are made from two pieces of plastic so they are 3 dimensional. Then I found little doll thingies. A Santa with a great beard, a snowman with a 'real' carrot nose and a fat blond girl angel. She's sitting up near the star. I don't discriminate against fat girls. But my big prize was finding lights made in Thailand. They are Christmas ball size balls made of string and dyed bright colors...red, blue, yellow, orange, purple and green. There is a small light inside that makes the balls glow.

Anyway, my tree is up and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here.
