They've been running some old eps of Jay Leno during the writer strike. (For some reason I still have AFN on my cable. Maybe it goes away Dec 1.) Boy the old set is painful to the eye. It used to be some artwork of a palm tree and sun. Kind of burns your eyes. |

Yeah, Julia Roberts was on last night promoting "The Pelican Brief". The audience and Jay went ga ga over her. I didn't know then what people saw in her, and I stll don't.
Jays jokes were even lamer than usual, and I felt sorry for the comedian that was on. He was so painfully unfunny. |

I can't believe at one point he was chosen for that show over David Letterman. |

Yeah because Letterman is such a riot
Honestly, at least it seems as though Jay wants to be there. Letterman should have retired years ago. He doesn't give a sh*t anymore. That's why he has to resort to throwing pencils sometimes, because he has no jokes. |

One man's poison. One thing I like about Letterman is he clearly does not like Bush and makes no bones about it. |

Gawd I hope Leno retires and soon. He's been phoning it in for years. His monologues are painful - you can tell that even HE doesn't really want to be there anymore! His "man-on-the-street interviews" are usually pretty good, and "headlines" is a great piece, but the rest of his show blows.
Letterman has way better monologues, but his off-set comedy is lacking. IMHO though, Letterman gives a way better interview.
I won't be at all bothered when Leno retires, but Letterman will be a huge loss. |

Yeah. Leno is a nice guy and he tends to fawn over his guests. I've heard a couple people mention that when they're in their dressing rooms at the Tonight Show, Leno pops by, asks them if they want a coffee, if they say yes, he brings them the coffee himself. He doesn't send a lackey.
Many people always found Letterman cold. Letterman is just one of those guys who is uncomfy in his own skin and his success.
But yeah, Letterman has less of a fear of offending his guests. |
