There's an officetel in the same building as the immigration office in Anguk-dong (right beside the cop shop and subway station). Key money was 35,000,000 and monthly was 400,000. I think it was 18 pyung, two rooms. |

Why ask for help when you insult the help you receive? If you don't like it, then you're welcome to look for yourself. |

Do you plan on doing illegal things? If not, what difference does it make? |

what was suggested to you is probably one of the better deals you will find for that area. jongno is the center of historic seoul and a business center. only a few places in seoul..(gangnam, myeongdong...) might rival rents around there.
you claim to be from new york (city??)- is it possible to get a place in manhattan in the price range you stated? even in harlem?
you might consider a university area or even itaewon/haebangchon.
me, i've got a place near gangnam for 550,000 (employer pays). officetel. 5 mil key money. it's tiny. if you got 35 mil key money, go for the one previously stated. |

You do NOT have my permission to live in Jongno.
Yet.
Please present yourself, 35 million won, and the following to
Office of the Guru,
Department of Barbarian Investigations
Gyeongbok Palace
Jongno-gu
Seoul:
-- sealed university transcripts (and it had better be somewhere I've heard of)
-- letter of recommendation, letter of introduction, letter of intent, letter of release, letter of the law, letters, oh we get letters, we get your letters every day, mailman mailman mail today, yaddaddadadda I don't really know that song, hmm
-- blood, hair, saliva & urine samples (these will be extracted by the guards outside my office)
-- a song & dance routine, no longer than 10 minutes (Can ya sing a song, can ya tell a story, can ya make us laugh, cry and then laugh again? You'd better.)
-- 1 case of Jameson 12 Year Old Distillery Reserve (available only at the source)
Then, and only then, will we consider your suitability for residence in the Only Gu That Matters. |

my place is extremely tiny, less than half the size of the place mentioned by Young FRANKenstein. i wouldn't recommend it!
anyway, yeah, you might get lucky and find a place. but any bargain you might find would be snatched up by someone on here and wouldn't be advertised to you, so...do what's recommended in other threads. come here and then go from real estate office to real estate office. live on a prayer.
how do you find sub-$700 single apartments in manhattan? can i get one near greenwich? i'll fly out next week. |

key money 10 mill and 500-600k is enough for a studio.
700 usd for a place in greenwich, not likely unless you get a roommate. you could find a place in brooklyn, queens, harlem, just ask around, they do exist. its a renters market in the entire USA, even nyc, because people have been buying homes rather than renting them, so there is a surplus on the market. for 700, a studio in the boroughs is possible. |

Ummm yeah...so have you been to Korea before? If you want an officetel, most of the owners will want a HUGE deposit of money called "key money". The bigger the key money, the less the montly rent. You just plan to give more than $10,000US to your landlord? What if you hate it here? Don't expect your landlord to quickly give you your money back because you "demand" it. Some people have trouble getting their key money back. Why don't quit being a bigshot and get your school to get you an apt like the rest of us did as newbies?
I would never give key more than $10,000 to a landlord in Korea. |

Um, get the help of a Korean. You can even find normal monthly payment places. Depends what quality you want. |
