I've been wondering what the scene is like over here (I'm assuming it's *extremely* closeted).
From what I've heard from gay foreigners, particularly males, there are a lot of of Korean men who are closeted and having sex with male and female partners -- I've also heard some shocking things about the male bathouses.
Do you date Koreans? What's the scene? |

I've met a few gay Koreans. They are the most "straight" men I've met here. No pink hairbands with glitter, or sparkly hand-cream, or low-cut shirts. They are actually kind of butch.
And mostly they are in the closet. |

| I'm not gay, but fron what I've heard and seen from friends is that gay male westerners are even luckier with the locals than straight western males. |

I wish I was gay. Thoses dudes can score within minutes of entering a club.
Us straight guys have to work and work at it. |

Koreans will say "there are no gay people in Korea". But there are of course.
In Itaewon there are a couple of gay bars up on da hill, right next to each other. Sorry, can't remember the name now, but when I was there, it was mostly foreigners inside. I think it is best to keep your gayness on the down low in Korea. They are way too conservative for that.
HOWEVER, a lot of my Korean girl-friends have all told me that they would LOVE to have a gay friend. Maybe they are watching too much Will and Grace or something, but I have heard that SO many times. |

Its called Homo Hill. And there are multiple bars.
There is also a gay section of Jongno area that caters mostly to Korean men.
There are bathhouses, DVD sex rooms, gay movie theatres, etc etc etc
The men are in the closet, thats for sure, but luckily since all Korean men look gay its ok to hold hands, have a purse and wear pink in public.
Anyway, pm for exact info. |

| I've found the gay scene among foreigners is pretty open, though I have no idea how they deal with Koreans (whether or not they are open at work, etc.). I've been here about 18 months and I've met about 10 or so gay men and women. The men had a much easier time, it seemed, meeting people than the women did, both in the Korean and foreign communities. It probably depends alot on where you live. |
