Ok, here's my situation. I've been in Seoul over 3 weeks. I've made my Japan run and I've applied for my alien immigration card which should be ready in about 1 week. Before I am able to pick it up, the immigration office has asked to see one of my original documents. Either my diploma or my transcript. They said they just need to see an original to compare it to the photocopy. My questions are:
1. Is this usual?
2. If it is usual, then why did I bother get my photocopied diploma and transcript notorized by a lawyer and stamped by the Korean consulate befoe I left canada?
Now I have to get someone in Canada to FedEx these documents to me, what a hassle and wast of money! |

In Seoul they require transcripts, but in most of the other places they don't -yet. This is a pretty recent law (maybe six months old)
Why'd you get your transcript notarized in the first place. They're pretty easy to replace, unlike a degree. |

I got it notarized so I wouldn't have to pay $25 to get a new one from my university. When I was getting my diploma notarized there was no extra charge to get my transcript notarized as well.
So you're saying this is a fairly new law in Korea? You need a notarized copy of your diploma but the actual copy of your transcript?
Maybe this should be a sticky then. |
