dont expect too much but works well in a class of mixed levels....
CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD
(BROTHER AND SISTER ARE SLEEPING IN THEIR ROOM WHEN A CHRISTMAS ANGEL WAKES THEM)
Boy: Who are you?
Angel: I am the Christmas angel
Girl: Why are you here?
Angel: I am here to take you around the world.
Boy: Around the world? Why are you taking us there.
Angel: To see all the different Christmases.
Girl: Sounds exciting, where are we going first?
Angel: Let�s start in Canada.
Boy and girl: OK let�s go.
CANADA
Canadian1: Welcome to Canada.
Canadian2: We are very close to Santa�s home in the North Pole.
Boy: There is so much snow.
Canadian1: Yes, it is very cold here; this is where the reindeer live.
Canadian2: In Canada, on Christmas day we have a big family party.
Canadian1: We eat Turkey, ham and lots of other yummy things.
Girl: Wow, that sounds delicious.
Canadian2: It is, we also open Christmas presents on Christmas morning.
Canadian1: I hope Santa brings me a Nintendo DS this year.
Boy: What else do you do in Canada?
Canadian2: We also go to peoples houses and sing Christmas songs.
Canadian1: and we go looking for reindeer in the snow.
Girl: sounds great, Canada has a very happy Christmas.
Boy and Girl: OK, we have to go now�bye
Canadian 1 and 2: Bye and merry Christmas.
AUSTRALIA
Girl: It is so hot here, where are we.
Australian1: You are in Australia.
Australian2: And here it is summer time at Christmas.
Boy: So you don�t have any snow?
Australian1: That�s right.
Australian2: We usually go to the beach on Christmas day.
Girl: To the beach?
Australian1: Yes, in Australia we all go the beach on Christmas day.
Australian2: With all of our family for a barbeque.
Boy: So you have a barbeque for Christmas?
Australian1: Yes and we eat a lot of steak and seafood.
Australian2: And we drink ice cold drinks.
Girl: Does Santa still come to Australia?
Australian1: He does but it is too hot for reindeers.
Australian2: So he has Kangaroos pulling his sleigh.
Boy and Girl: KANGAROOS!!!!
Australian1: Yes big white kangaroos.
Girl: OK, we have to go now.
Boy: Thank you for telling us about Christmas in Australia.
Australian2: that�s ok, merry Christmas.
Boy and girl: Bye.
JAPAN
Boy: where are we?
Girl: I don�t know.
Japanese1: you are in Japan.
Girl: Can you tell us about Christmas in Japan?
Japanese1: no Christmas in Japan, GO AWAY.
Boy and girl: aaaahhhh (run away).
SPAIN
Spainish1: Felix navidad.
Boy: What did you say?
Spanish2: Felix navidad.
Girl: What does that mean?
Spanish1: It is how you say merry Christmas in Spain.
Spanish2: Christmas is a very important festival in Spain.
Spanish1: Christmas is a 20 day festival here.
Spanish2: It starts on December 8 and finishes on December 28.
Boy: Wow, a 20 day Christmas.
Girl: sounds wonderful.
Spanish1: we give presents to people we love on December 24.
Spanish2: Christmas Eve is the time for our family.
Boy: what else do you do?
Spanish1: we sing Christmas songs.
Spanish2: and we do a special dance called the JOTA.
Girl: sounds like Christmas in Spain is fantastic.
Boy: we have to go, merry Christmas.
Spanish1 and Spanish2: Felix Navidad.
HAWAII
H1: Mele Kalikimaka
H2: This means Merry Christmas in Hawaii.
Boy: It is very hot here.
Girl: Like Australia.
H1: yes, Christmas time in Hawaii is hot.
H2: we also go to the beach on Christmas day.
Boy: So no snow here too.
Girl: how does Santa get here.
H1: It is too hot for his reindeers.
H2: He comes here by boat because Hawaii is an island.
Boy: what do you do on Christmas day?
H1: We have a party called Kanikapila.
H2: With lots of guitars and singing.
Girl: Sounds like fun.
Boy: anyway we are going back to Korea now.
H1 and H2: OK, Mele Kalikimaka.
Boy and girl: Mele Kalikimaka.
KOREA
K1: Meli Kliseumasu saehae pog manhi pateuseya
K2: This is how we say merry Christmas in Korea.
Girl: What season is it in Korea?
K1: It is winter.
K2: it is very cold.
K1: We can make snowmen.
K2: and have snowball fights.
K1: lots of fun in the snow.
Boy: does Santa come to Korea?
K2: Yes he does, we call him Santa haraboji.
K1: that means Santa Grandfather.
Girl: does he bring presents to everyone.
K2: not everyone.
K1: Only some people believe in Christmas in Korea.
Boy: I hope he brings me presents.
Girl: me too.
Boy: anyway, we have to go..bye.
K1 and K2: Meli Kliseumasu saehae pog manhi pateuseya
(Boy and Girl back in bed sleeping)
Boy: (wakes up): Sister, wake up.
Girl: I had a funny dream.
Boy: me too.
Girl: I dreamed of a Christmas angel.
Boy: me too, maybe it was real.
(Everyone comes out and holds hands)
Everyone: Merry Christmas everybody. |
