how many sick days are in the GEPIK contracts? Is it 14?
How many days before I need to show a sick note? |

Ya, I think its 14 days. If more than 7 days in a row, you need a doctors note. More than 15 days in a row and you are docked pay.
Edit: Spliff, Ya beat me to it.... |

And why would I care if it is frowned upon.
I have sick days which I can use, I need to use them so I will.
What are they going to do? Not renew my contract - oh no. |

What's the problem...runny nose... See ya at the gym tonight! Would it be possible for a skinflint like yourself to be absent for a whole week? |

wow, you get 3 in hagwon and taking them is like trying to get blood out of a turnip.
I read that EPIK gives you 14 and a note is not required until you reach 7 consecutive days. I would assume GEPIK is very similar.
I know I have been sick a solid 3 months this year alone and worked every day. This has been a tough reality of living and working in Korea for me. It's just such a germy and stressful environment to be in. |

I would rather use mine up during the winter vacation period in order to get out of a few days of camp |

if you're sick, then take it. they can't do a damn thing about it.
sick days don't accrue when your contract is up or renewed so why waste it away. |

| For EPIC and GEPIC it's 15 (fifteen) calendar days. I don't know for sure about SMOE, but I think all public school jobs have the same 'sick leave' clause. |

I will be using them
Going to be an interesting one though.
Why do you need them off?
TO lie in bed doing nothing.
Why do you need to do that.
Doctor says so. Sitting at my desk doing nothing is worse thing for me.
Korean people don't do that. We work with all our aches and pains.
*beep* off do you. You sleep on the desk or in the ladies sleeping room. |

| The biggest problem with taking time off regards the perception of teachers. Foreign instructors are not highly regarded in the first place, so you are better off to call in from home rather than show up and take the risk that they are going to refue your request for time off. I had to go into the hospital for a leg injury a couple of months ago and my school wanted me to come in and ask permission to take the time off. It was really serious, I needed to be transported by ambulance, and the school practically insisted that I come in to ask the Principal if it was okay to be off. Fortunately my wife (Korean) just told them they had no choice in the situation. I stayed in the hospital for 8 days and was on the edge of needing surgery. Just think if I had gone in. they probably would have said, you are okay, we'll let you sit down while you teach. Talk about compassion, huh? |
